Here are some insurance requirements you may see in your contract, and what they mean:
No matter what kind of show you're attending, the venue operator will require that you purchase special event liability insurance. (You will need to actually show the operator the piece of paper with Certificate of Insurance upon it.) This covers you in case you or your display, booth or cart causes damage to person or property in any way.
Accidents happen, booths fall down and people get injured in completely unforeseen ways. More often than not, legal action is frequently taken to hold people and businesses accountable for what transpired. Your venue operator will need to make sure you're covered.
The facility also may also request to be added to your special event liability insurance. This is called adding the facility as an Additional Insured to your policy. This protects the venue should it also be sued (people who file lawsuits often go after as many entities as possible, no matter how tenuous or how close to the incident). It generally costs you nothing to add the name of the facility to your vendor liability insurance policy.
