“Why deal with an agency that doesn’t understand the coverage requirements and the legal language required by so many of today’s venues? These guys deal with many of the same venues hundreds of times a year! They are experts!”

As you prepare for the show, the first thing you should arrange for is trade show insurance.
The trade show venue itself will require that you have merchants insurance. The minimum requirement usually is $1 million in general liability insurance for the days of the show. The venue will also likely require that you carry trade show insurance that protects you as well as the venue. This is to protect you and the event producer in case your actions or products result in a claim.
Even if a venue didn't require general liability insurance, you still need to purchase some trade show insurance: accidents do happen. Even the sturdiest of displays can fall and hurt passersby or other exhibitors. People do slip. They fall and injure themselves. And, in our society who is eager to place blame in an attempt for financial gain, people are apt to file suit for even very minor injuries.
You can help protect your self from lawsuits -- and others from injury -- by making sure any electrical cords are taped securely to the ground and covered by carpeting or other protective layers. Check those electrical cords for fraying. Keep all boxes out of walkways and tucked away in the back of your stand or under tables out of sight. Make sure sharp objects are far from the public's grasp.
